A highly respected name in Australian motorsport, Rust has been a broadcast staple for several categories for over 30 years.
Rust has previously featured on Supercars broadcasts both as a lead caller and pit reporter, dating back to the mid-1990s.
In recent years the veteran has found a comfortable home at both the Shannons SpeedSeries and Australian Rally Championship, alongside host duties at the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix and more.
“We’ve been talking about this for years, but scheduling never lined up until now,” WTAC event director Alain Sihaphone said.
“The stars have aligned for 2026, and we can’t wait to see his reaction when he’s trackside this September at SMSP. It’s going to blow his mind.”
WTAC CEO Ian Baker described Rust’s energy as “unmatched”, and that he has a “gift for storytelling”.

“Giving him a roving mic to unearth the incredible backstories in the paddock will be the perfect complement to our global coverage,” Baker added.
Rust described the envy he had felt in previous years after missing the event due to scheduling conflicts.
“I feel like I’ve had ‘menu envy’ for the past couple of years watching the stream and seeing all the cool stuff on socials,” Rust said.
“Now I get to experience it for real!”
Rust will join racing veteran Warren Luff as part of the livestream broadcast team for the 2026 event.
“Luffy [Warren Luff] is a good mate, and guys like Alex Rullo, Mad Mike, Josh Buchan and my SpeedSeries colleague Charlie Barlow have all raved to me about it,” Rust added.
“I can’t wait to get stuck in, and if time permits, I’ll definitely be knocking out a few Rusty’s Garage podcast episodes trackside, too!”
World Time Attack Challenge will be held at Sydney Motorsport Park on September 4-5.
